Following Tesla's 9th price change just a day ago, Tesla has officially released a new model that we have been missing for over 8 months now. The Tesla Model 3 now has a 3rd trim that can be ordered, but there are some key differences from the previous version. 8 months ago, Tesla stopped offering the Model 3 Long Range as an option.Although it was not entirely clear why this trim was removed from the configurator, speculation has suggested it is due to demand on the Model Y, and allocating battery resources accordingly. Tesla has officially brought back the long missing Model 3 Long Range. This new version does have a different battery than before, and it has less range. With an LFP battery pack, it comes in at 325 miles of range. Other than the reduced range, the LR Model 3 offers the same specs as its predecessor. One key difference of the LFP vs NCA is that it can be charged to 100%. So even though the range seems to be lower, being able to charge at 100% daily means that you can get a daily effective range of 325 miles, vs 322 miles when charging the previous model 3 at 90%. With that there are some issues with price. Because it now features an LFP battery, it will not qualify for the full tax credit. Because of this, when considering the tax credit, the Model Y AWD and Model Y LR are both cheaper than this new LR Model 3.
