My Homeball road trip begins in spectacularly disastrous fashion! After Gumball 3000, we now have a HUGE journey in the AMG GT Black Series back home, firstly heading via Serbia and Bulgaria to Romania! However, it seems just about everything wants to go wrong with this plan... Having only just arrived in Montenegro at the end of the 24th annual Gumball 3000 supercar rally, we've immediately removed the livery from the Mercedes (the final of the 6 cars I drove over the 6 legs of the rally) ready for this wild journey ahead. In theory this is a day with 12 hours on the road, numerous border crossings along the way, and some all new countries for me to visit and therefore a lot to plan ahead with. Things quickly go wrong when we realise that the valve caps on the GT Black Series have been stolen from the jetty at Porto Montegro, but after a couple of stops we've managed to track down some new ones to avoid the dust issues that could present. However, it goes from bad to worse when I have a navigation fail and realise that Waze is taking me to the Albanian border with no insurance for the country prepared in advance. A positive turn arrives with some wonderful roads, and then entering Serbia to beautiful scenery and an incredible country to drive through. However, late in the evening when it's the border crossings into Bulgaria and then Romania, everything drags on and on, making a 12 hour journey suddenly end up taking 17 hours.
