Gigafactory Texas on 1 May 2023! This is where Model Y’s are built and soon Cyber Truck production will start! Early morning flight with a nice sunrise and beautiful conditions to fly in over Giga Texas! I tour a large portion of the overall site today, so plenty to see and some exciting developments along the way! Timestamps: Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 4:34 Drone flight footage & infographics: 4:39 to 31:30 In this video introduction, we discuss the upcoming Shareholders Day event on the 18th of May here at Giga Texas, the nice sunrise, activity on the west side of the highway, main entrance changes and progress, south end grade work and Continuous Flight Auger pile drilling, and the expansion of work at the Megapack Battery Electric Storage System (BESS) construction site, including electrical conduit installation to connect the main factory to this site and the new permanent electrical switchyard. Detailed highlights around the site include: We start off on the west side of the highway checking out the material staging and WOW Yard, and the progress with the pond and hill clearing work, which seems nearly completed. Some Geotextile membranes were laid out previously, but I don't see any additional application this morning, but earthmoving equipment was already at work in the area. The west main entrance continues to transform, with a lot of landscaping and gravel mix application, the steel central structure getting stainless steel cladding for the final appearance, and other detail work. I took a high-altitude Birdseye view that shows off the "plaid"-like effect of this design. On the south end, most of the grade work to begin construction of the building lengthening project is completed, with some additional fill dirt arriving on the west side. The Continuous Flight Auger Pile cranes and supporting equipment have now moved away from the southeast corner of stamping to more of a middle area of the south end. This suggests they are expanding the pile drilling to new areas around this site! Around the northeast corner of the casting machine structure, we see more work widening the berm area and installing trenches for electrical conduit. Further conduit work is underway just north of Tesla Road, which suggests crews are working to link conduit under the northeast wall of casting and further around the east side where the two main trunks of electrical connections enter the main factory. This is likely to allow connections to both the new permanent electrical switchyard and the Megapack site! The Megapack construction site itself shows a lot of work installing two large parallel trenches, with survey crews out taking measurements and installing stakes along the entire length of this site. We are likely seeing the initial work on foundations for the Megapacks themselves! We fly far to the north to check out the large field with materials and the northeast rental equipment staging and maintenance yards. Some changes are apparent in these areas, including a lot more materials being stored in the large rectangular field area. Many more developments at the Die Shop, Battery Cathode Plant, Cell Test Lab, and the Electrical switchyard, so check out the images and the video later today!
