The Ukrainian army has become one of the best armies in the world, capable of defending Ukrainian lands for months, and achieving great success in the 14-month war. The city of Bakhmut is playing a crucial role in this, as it has become the deepest layer of hell where the Russian army is suffering heavy losses and embarrassment while trying to make a breakthrough. Ukrainian forces are advancing towards Bakhmut from the northwest and southwest and have prevented Russian troops from sending reinforcements. Ukrainian artillery units have pushed three Russian battalions of 2,000 troops out of Bakhmut's central front line, dealing a great blow to the Russian forces. The Russian troops had no choice but to retreat, as they were under heavy bombardment by Ukrainian artillery units. The remaining soldiers fled further east from the central area of Bakhmut to avoid the artillery fire of the Ukrainian forces. Without Western and US aid to the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian forces would perhaps not have been able to continue the war of attrition in Bakhmut for so long. After the retreat, the Russians still launched retaliatory attacks in Bakhmut and other front lines of the Donetsk region.
