Jeff the kestrel seems to have found love at last. After an awkward start, during which this clumsy juvenile kept chasing potential partners away, it looks like he has finally got the hang of it. Just look at this new kestrel couple pair touch beaks! Watch this kestrel pair's courtship develop on my livestream cameras here: https://www.youtube.com/live/YyUgl4bDBt0?feature=share To support my channel and my wildlife rehabilitation and conservation work, please donate here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=A52ZHAMJZC3J4 or join one of my supporter communities in exchange for behind the scenes content here: https://www.robertefuller.com/support_and_donate/ JEFF Jeff is the youngest chick of the single kestrel dad Mr Kes and was raised here at Fotherdale last year. Watch the full story here https://youtu.be/7nOIdXCZK6Q Sadly Mr Kes has now disappeared, but Jeff seems to have adopted the territory in his place. KESTREL COURTSHIP When courting male kestrels will search appropriate nest sites and then call to attract a female and hope that she approves. CALLING FOR A KESTREL PARTNER Jeff has been doing this for a while now, but so far each time a female has responded he has then turned aggressive. This time, however, Jeff seems to have overcome his clumsy tactics. BEAKS TOUCH Watch the intimate moment a female arrives into the nest and the two touch beaks. It seems Jeff has permission at last to mate and he knows just what to do. KEEP WATCHING I will be following this pair closely in the hope that they nest and begin a new family. I build ideal habitats to encourage wildlife into my garden and use nest cams to study their behaviour. These studies inform my paintings. I share the best of my video research on this channel for free.
